CREDITS

  • Art by Morgan Strom (@gutterspiteink and also @magically.mango on instagram) commissioned especially for this project. It was so fun working with you Morgan!!!
  • Background of the rules page is this photo (3rd in the set) by Briscoe Park (@briscoepark on Twitter) which has been used without permission
  • 'Found Object Art' photography (all the items) came from pinterest. There was a treasure trove of collage-ready items which was fortunate for me, but, unfortunately, it also wasn’t possible to trace back where these collections came from. Whoever is out there taking pictures of non branded items on white backgrounds: you’re a gentleman and a scholar and we should kiss <3
  • Everything else (game design, graphic design, writing...) was me! Hannah Ava Strawberry (@hannah_ava_strawberry on instagram) the heavy lifting of the graphic design was Texture Labs (image repository), Lora (font), Quicksand (font), and built in Photoshop tools. I did not prompt or use any AI technologies while making this work. If it becomes clear that on of my assets is AI, I will replace it.

Safety Tools

You are not here for this game, this game is here for you. This game does not know what is best for you, only you do.  Use a safety toolkit that works for you, I recommend Script Change by Beau Jágr Sheldon. I do not advocate for the use of this game as an exploration of a real world relationship. It is supposed to be a fun, albeit heavy, collaborative exercise to do with a partner you feel comfortable around, maybe someone you’re still getting to know! The game and its content are fiction not meant to cause you distress. That flowery bossy omniscient narrator isn't real and you don't have to listen to it.

I Am Real, And I Resent You Undermining My Authority

Whatever. The most important rule is that this game is yours. Don't be afraid to bend, break, dismantle, or tweak the rules (try playing with more than two players I wanna see if it works teehee). The rules exist to serve you, not the other way around. You should ignore them whenever it makes your game better.

Inspirations

  • I Saw the TV Glow. I watched it for the first time this year. It was the first time I saw a feature film dedicated to a singular feeling. I didn't know you were allowed to do that. It was so queer and beloved and while I was working on this project I realized I wanted to dedicate every pixel to my own nostalgic longing I can't name. I'm glad I did.
  • The Time We Have  by Elliot Davis, a storytelling card game played on opposite sides of a closed door and a conversation about saying goodbye. I found it after developing the mechanics of my game and it shared the core gameplay loop and featured a way cooler premise so I immediately bought and read it. I'm sure my prompts ended up influenced by Elliot's. I bet there are other games that also share the mechanic but this was the only one I read during this game's development.
  • A progression of my previous one-page, Demon Child, my evolving love of zines heavily influenced the visual style of this project. GO MAKE A ZINE AND GO FIND A LOCAL ZINE. I think zines make the world a better place.

Steal This Game!

You have full and total right for this work to inspire your own. You may even copy it verbatim. You must credit the use of any and all elements used so that consumers of your work can reasonably track that credit back to it's source. Your art will be built on my art and my art will then be built on the back of yours, but you must do your due diligence and attempt to capture that chain of influence in detail. Fuck intellectual property. Let's steal each other's work <3

*This project is a submission to the 2026 one-page rpg jam, but it does not meet the strict definition of said jam:

anything that is required to play the game should be available to the players on the main page
If your game has character sheets they can be separate, however they should not contain information not in the core rules

HOWEVER, I believe its best home is as a submission. vergessen is true to the spirit of one-page games:

One-page RPGs are often easy to pick up and learn, allowing you to spend more time playing and less time reading.
Can a group of players pick up the front page, read it through, then start playing the game without additional info?
The important thing is that your submission is not multiple pages of text that players have to read first in order to play your game.

yes, yes, and YES!! The players don't need, and should not read anything more than one page of rules, and then immediately begin play. The additional pages do not include any additional rules.

Maybe more importantly, this game was made wholly within the duration of the one-page-rpg jam 2026, for the one-page-rpg jam 2026 and the ideation began with the announcement of the year's theme, fractured, which became core to theme of vergessen.

Still, this project has fourteen pages, and it's bemusing to call it a 'one-page' but whatever it is, it is super cool and it would be so sick if you fell in love with it too <3
